Ashtanga with Prabhava: Thursday sessions
February 14 @ 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm
Ashtanga Yoga is a very ancient style of yoga which is recognised as one of the “Mothers” of Power Yoga. Our Ashtanga Yoga classes are taught in the traditional style where students practice a led, set sequence of yoga asanas (postures) using synchronous movement and breath, building upper body and core strength. Repetition is the mother of mastery. This, and the sense of consistency, help to pave the way to a soothed nervous system and a calm mind. These classes follow a set routine and structure that’s quickly learned and beginner friendly. This doesn’t mean that the practice gets any less challenging, as you progress through your practice you simply go deeper and deeper into the Ashtanga method.
Born in Shantipur, West Bengal, India, Prabhav was trained in the path of Bhakti yoga, the science of transcendental knowledge from the age of six at the Paramarthik Vidyapith also known as Mayapur Gurukul, 1973. He then pursued his higher education at the Vrindavan Gurukul from 1979 to 1984, where he studied all aspects of Bhakti Yoga including Bhakti Shastri and Bhakti Vaibhav, which are higher ladder of spiritual science of the soul and its creation. His father was a tantric yogi and a natural healer through mantras and plant-based medicines.
He first came to Sydney in 1984 and then started travelling around the USA and Europe from 1991. In 2000, Prabhav went to live in Hong Kong and this is when he had a strong desire to become a yoga teacher.
In 2002, Prabhav went to the International Yoga Institute in Mumbai to learn yoga concepts – asana, poses, teaching methods. From 2005 to 2016 Prabhav taught yoga at various schools, fitness centers and conducted private classes in Guangzhou, China. The International Yoga Alliance has recognized Prabhav’s performance.
